September in Wisconsin

Q: When is Juror Appreciation Month/Week/Day?

A: Whenever we damn well feel like it!

Seriously, many jurisdictions celebrate in May to coincide with Law Day, but there's no hard and fast rule. Juror Appreciation is a moveable feast. Pick a time -- any time -- to devote to juror coffee improvement and better access to free ballpoint pens for upright citizens.

In Wisconsin, jurors are appreciated in September. (You'd think they'd be exhausted from Oktoberfest overload this time of year, as we are here in southwestern Ohio, but apparently they are not.)

The Cheeseheads have made this official, even seeking and gaining approval by the other more dangerous branches. This year's theme is "Jurors Serve Justice; Justice Serves Us All."

Open (court)houses, special juror M&Ms, cake, refrigerator magnets, and press conferences are part of the celebration.

See Jurors Are Good Citizens, Leader-Telegram (September 8, 2008), and hug a juror.
