: The MenagerieElephants!
Today we took Peach to the zoo (thank you again, R&M, for the membership!) to see the baby elephant who has yet to be named. Our pictures of the baby did not turn out (awful lighting, not allowed to use a flash), although we did get some nice HD video. Instead, I bring you this elephant, who has a name but I, unfortunately, don't know my pachyderms by sight:
The Oregon Zoo has a very successful Asian elephant breeding program, but the elephant enclosures break my heart - it's pretty much a concrete jungle. I really hope the upcoming bond measure passes.
The lone protester in the designated protest spot was very pleasant woman holding a sign for elephants.com. No drama, just the sign. She didn't intrude; we asked her about her sign, and she told us about the elephant reserve and the site, and that was it. If it was a protest, it was the nicest protest I'd ever seen, and it made me infinitely more likely to go to the site and look around than if it had been, say, the group who protested outside of Schumacher Furs.
