Cuyahoga County to Start New Business Docket

By Cleveland Law Library

ADVERTISEMENTS

In January, the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and 4 other county courts (Franklin, Hamilton, Lucas and Montgomery) in the state are going to start specialized, business dockets to handle complex business litigation. Crain's Cleveland Business online reports that 2 judges in each of these counties will take cases on the new dockets after they receive training and agree to rule on motions within 60 days or appoint special masters. The dockets are slated to run for an initial 4 years and could tackle issues related to starting or terminating a business, determining the rights of partners or shareholders, trade secrets, non-compete clauses, employment contracts, investments, and more. Cuyahoga County CP Court already has a complex litigation docket for asbestos, silica and welding rod cases, but the "docket" of court activity and filings is not a matter of public record.
