"Porn has a socially redeeming quality"

ADVERTISEMENTS
or "what I learned tonight in Property".

Seriously.

We reviewed the International News Service v. the Associated Press and the Cheney Brothers v. Doris Silk cases tonight. Both of them are about "quasi-property" or intangible property.

The policy discussion turned into the question of whether you would want to squelch improvements in services or technology in order to fiercely protect certain entities' property rights.

Case in point? When the internet first got its legs, porn soon followed. But man, it took a long time to download those graphics! So the porn industry pioneered a way to make graphic-laden web pages download more quickly.

See? Socially redeeming quality. :)

Speaking of porn, why is it legal in this country to get paid for sex as long as it's being videotaped, but not if it's in the privacy of a hotel room or home?

Porn v. Prostitution. Shouldn't they both be legal? Or illegal? Seems strange that it's only ok if we watch, but that's just me!
