Bush Administration to Pull Teeth of Endangered Species Act

ADVERTISEMENTS

The lame duck Bush II administration appears poised to give the American people one last "gift."  Ministering anxiously to the complaints of private developers and some government agencies, they are set to end the requirement that projects funded, built or authorized by a federal agency be reviewed for their impact on endangered species.  The administration is going to end the review requirement, in place for the past 35 years, not by legislation passed by the representatives of the people, but by regulation. There is just enough time to squeeze in the 60 day comment period before President Bush leaves office.  For myself, I know I would much prefer a new Super Wallmart to a Florida panther I might never get to see.  See this article in the Arizona Daily Star
