Former deputy public defender sentenced to 5 years probation for stalking, harassment

Former Corona del Mar defense attorney David Scharf was sentenced to a one year drug treatment program as part of his five year probation sentence for stalking and harassing his ex-girlfriend, the Orange County Register reported (here).

Scharf could have faced up to three years in prison for sending the woman threatening emails and then going inside her home and leaving a copy of the California Penal Code to suggest she could be arrested.

Lloyd Freeberg, his defense attorney, claimed Scharf's addiction to methamphetamines explained his actions, the O.C. Register reported.
