We LOVE HeinOnline!

By Diane Murley

ADVERTISEMENTS

HeinOnline provides electronic access to many publications that are frequently used by legal researchers, and its page-image format combines the benefits of print and electronic formats. Publications include law journals, Federal Register and Code of Federal Regulations, U.S. Statutes at Large and state session laws, Presidential documents, and many out-of-print publications that are not available in the Ross-Blakley Law Library or on Westlaw and LexisNexis.

Here are some of the reasons that we think you will love HeinOnline too:

  • Sometimes you need to see a document as it originally appeared in print. Although other online legal research services provide access to the text of articles and other legal documents, their formats cannot include many of the tables, charts, and other visual aids from the original publication. HeinOnline’s page-image format looks exactly like the pages appeared in print.
  • Sometimes you need a document that is too old to be available on Westlaw or LexisNexis. Many legal research databases do not cover all the years that a publication was printed. For example, LexisNexis and Westlaw only have the Federal Register back to 1980/81. Although some law journals have been included since the early 1980’s, many were not added until the 1990’s. HeinOnline has journals, the Federal Register, and other publications back to the first volume.
  • Sometimes you need to conduct research when you are away from the law library. Because HeinOnline provides electronic access to legal publications that were previously only available in books or on microfiche, you can now access these historical documents without physically visiting the library.

HeinOnline is available from Law Library computers. ASU students, faculty, and staff can access it remotely via ASURITE.
