Judge Kozinski on Dating Game: ?Good Afternoon, Flower of my Heart?

By Dan Slater

ADVERTISEMENTS

kozinskiHere at the LB, we hear all kinds of tales about law students doing zany things to pay their way through law school (and to chip away at the ensuing debt). But how about game shows? That seems new.

We don’t know why Judge Kozinski went on the “The Dating Game”, whether he did it for the money, or whether there even was a monetary reward. But there he is, a bright-faced 18-year-old Kozinski with a killer smile, dressed in a smart brown suit and still sporting a rather thick Romanian accent. (Click here to view the 40-second clip, via Overlawyered. Click here for a 2004 blog post on the clip from Underneath Their Robes.)

He won the game. It’s not clear why the beautiful brunette chose the dashing Kozinski over someone who bears an uncanny resemblance to David L. Lander — a/k/a Andrew “Squiggy” Squiggman from “Laverne & Shirley” — but we suspect Kozinski sealed the deal at hello. “Good afternoon, flower of my heart,” he said, with a straight face.

According to Ted Frank, of AEI and Overlawyered fame, Kozinski once told a crowd of Chicago Law students that he didn’t get to enjoy the prize, a trip, as described by the host, to “the international masters tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico” because the brunette had a boyfriend, and asked to substitute the boyfriend in Kozinski’s stead.

The “international masters tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico”? We placed a call to Kozinski’s chambers, but have yet to hear back.
