How to destroy every single opportunity you get?

By Tracy Coenen

ADVERTISEMENTS

I love reality television. Sunday night I was watching “The Two Coreys” on A&E, a reality show about Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. They were the two young actors who starred together in Lost Boys back in the 1980’s. They both did a fair amount of film work in the 80s and 90s, but both of their careers were impacted by drug addictions.

And then one of them grew up. Feldman kicked his drug habit 15 years ago and worked hard to reestablish himself in Hollywood. It was hard. The work wasn’t consistent, but he kept at it. He’s also recorded a solo album and is getting into producing.

And then there’s Corey Haim. Haim was a drug addict who was reportedly impossible to work with. He reportedly has been to rehab 15 or more times. At one point, he got so desperate for money that he resorted to selling one of his teeth and clumps of his hair on the internet.

Feldman seems to have just worked and acted like a reasonable human being. This contrast is very evident in their current television show. Haim acts like a selfish little brat  who thinks everyone should cater to his messed up self. And Feldman just works and is nice to people.

Haim even went so far as to take out an ad in Variety magazine earlier this year, saying that he was ready to make amends and work. And then he followed it up with ridiculous behavior on the set of Lost Boys 2 (see video below). Talk about destroying every opportunity that comes your way!

Haim said at one point that he kicked his drug habit, but it sure doesn’t appear that way. And one has to wonder where his head is. It seems he’s got a golden opportunity with this television show if he really wants to turn his career around. Instead, he demonstrates exactly why people in Hollywood don’t want to work with him. Would you work with someone so childish, rude, selfish, and unpredictable?
