: The Patent ProspectorAfloat
By Gary Odom and Jordan Kuhn
A
further bit of evidence that Wall Street floats on an ocean of dumb money flowed
in earlier this week. Tessera has an
enforcement campaign for semiconductor packaging patent
6,433,419. The patent, currently under reexamination, is invalid.
Patent Hawk provided the ammunition.
Tessera announced that the reexam, which they expect to go to appeal, will take
so long that the patent will expire before that shooting match is over. Tessara
shares jumped 8.4% on that bit of tripe.
But it's not all tripe. Tessara has an ITC gangbang against 13 companies going on. May 23, Micron Electronics was the first of the accused crowd to take a license. Companies with stiffer spines and sharper lawyers will hang tough and rout the little troll, but Tessera will get some bankroll from the weak-kneed.
Partly based on a story in Forbes.
