"Profiling We Can Believe in"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Politico is reporting that two Michigan Muslim supporters of Obama were barred from sitting on the podium behind Barack in order to hide their headscarves from the cameras. The campaign has denied this, instead stating that head gear of any kind, including baseball caps, are not allowed in the special backdrop section, and any request to remove the head scarves was not motivated by concern over the supporters' religion.

The problem is, however, that this explanation seems at odds with the account of a witness, who stated that a campaign staffer explicitly told them that it would not be wise for Obama to be seen with a person wearing a Muslim head scarf. Moreover, the "no hats" rule is apparently a Michigan-only rule, as hat wearers are visible in just about every televised speech Obama has given thus far.

I wonder if the Obama campaign bars cowboy hats in the backdrop at Texas events?
