A Tale of Two Factoring Brokers

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

Doesn't Rhonda Bentzen have anything to say except gossip about the comings and goings in the structured settlement industry? Not a peep from her since April Fools Day.

Out of 11 posts since February 18, 2008

  1. 3 were directly about me.
  2. 1 was a false report about a goofy pillow fight commercial that never aired but she represented was about to air. Even DealFlow Media retracted their version, not Bentzen.
  3. 1 was about the ASNP conference
  4. 1 was about Settlement Planning (a/k/a "a price is just a price")
  5. 1 was about the Upchurch purchase of Delta Group
  6. 1 quoted Wikipedia on Inferiority/Superiority Complexes for some strange reason
  7. 1  was about a reorganization at Prudential and a Brian Ginty send off.
  8. 1  was about  a factoring transaction

During the same time period one can observe 16 industry gossip items added. Based on this data one could opine that Rhonda's blog is more gossip than substance.

Surely Ms. Bentzen could be more of a thought leader and discuss relevant information about what it is she does as a structured settlement factoring broker and her industry.

Andrew Cravenho of the Settlement Quotes Factoring Exchange is running circles around Bentzen providing information about the factoring industry.

  1. Cravenho has written over 30 posts in the same time period and has done far more to help educate and make the important distinction between structured settlements and  structured settlement factoring transactions to the general public.
  2. Cravenho bravely takes on the ethics of his own industry and suggests factoring improvements (also here in response to my comments). What has Bentzen done this year? Why has Bentzen not spoken out on the ethics of a "cash now pusher" that is  " too close to home" which effectively promotes the sale of structured settlement payment rights to buy Ferraris and boats?
  3. Cravenho posted a factoring discount calculator that helps, judges, consumers and their advisors instantly determine the effective discount rate or tells them what to expect if they demand a specific discount rate. What has Bentzen done?
  4. Cravenho claims to provide up to 10 structured settlement factoring quotes per deal. How many does Bentzen give your client? Should those of you who are promoting full market surveys to plaintiffs on the one hand, or possibly impressed with Michael Upchurch's software program for structured settlement comparison quoting , be asking yourself if a single call to a single funding source is now sufficient due diligence?  If you are taking structured settlement factoring vig from Bentzen or anyone else, ask yourself the question again!
  5. Cravenho loses in the gossip department. If that's what you're into DON'T call Cravenho.
