FBI-Media Relations : "Amazing Artifacts in Newseum Exhibit

By David Badertscher, PLL

ADVERTISEMENTS

Source: Crime and Justice News, June 5, 2008.

"Washington's new Newseum is opening a special exhibit featuring 'amazing artifacts from the FBI evidence vault' and 'the complicated relationship between the FBI and the media,' says Newseum director Joe Urschel. The artifacts include the Unabomber's cabin, John Dillinger's death mask, and the electric chair in which convicted Charles Lindbergh baby kidnapper Bruno Hauptmann was executed."

" 'G-Men and Journalists: Top News Stories of the FBI's First Century,' opens June 20 for a year. The Newseum says the exhibit partly will explore 'the role of the media in shaping the bureau's image and the sometimes cooperative, sometimes combative relationship between the press and the FBI.' Another reason for it is to capitalize on public interest in the FBI, which shut down its popular tours for security reasons after Sept. 11, 2001."
