More maternity and paternity leave at Heller Ehrman

Heller Ehrman increased its parental leave and changed its part-time policy last month, Cal Law's Legal Pad reported.

Paid leave was increased from six weeks to 10 weeks for "primary caregivers" and from six to eight weeks for disability leave for mothers.

The firm changed its policy on part-time work from a case by case basis - lawyers taking care of kids can work part time for up to a year and those taking care of another family member can work part-time for up to six months.

The Legal Pad points to surveys by Above the Law that find most firms providing moms with less than 18 weeks leave and dads with less than 10 weeks leave.
