Keeping It Real

Today, I found myself cleaning out email and reading back issues of newsletters. I found myself amused by one particular newsletter that used an American Idol analogy and a reference to Moment of Truth to explain the power of being honest.

What about that Moment of Truth show! OUCH. You must really be an honest or stupid person to appear on that show. We all have something we don?t want others to know. I?m pleased to announce though that I have nothing to hide professionally.

Another newsletter I read this morning from a different author stressed the importance of honesty in your marketing. I think this is a great idea. All marketing efforts whether written or verbal should relate the truth. Additionally, if asked a question you don?t have an answer for simply state you don?t know. If someone asks a direct question provide a direct honest reply. The best way to gain trust in customers is by being completely honest. You?ll never lose a client you were meant to have.

You can always take keeping it real to ?a whole nother level? by being honest in all your business affairs. Why not? You have nothing to loose when you are honest in your every day affairs. I?m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Thereby, if you are honest and you lose something you thought was important (e.g. a client, a business deal, etc) it wasn?t in your best interest to have it in the first place. Having said this it doesn?t take the sting out of losing something you worked hard for. Just remember that life is fair. Life is just. There is a plan. If you do the right thing, live a fair life and are always honest you will be the one who comes out ahead in life and business.
