So You Think You Can Dance.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Because I am such an awesome paragon of studiousness I am watching the tryouts for So You Think You Can Dance. I really enjoy the show. I think that dancing is amazing. If I could re-do my childhood, I think I would have taken up dancing when I was still young and limber. The way that some people can move is just utterly astounding.

The only thing that I don’t like about the show is that when someone is boring or sucks during the audition, the judges will often say, “That wasn’t dancing.”

I disagree, I think that the nature of dancing is anything that is movement to music that the person dancing enjoys. I think that the statement, “That’s not dancing.” is narrowminded and sad. I would have no problem if they said, “That was not good dancing”, or, “That dancing lacked artistry, or merit.” But to categorically deny that someone is dancing is a low blow.
