The Gracious Out.

By Steve Pirates

ADVERTISEMENTS

I think that the best thing that the superdelegates of the Democratic Party can do for Sen. Clinton is to flock to Obama en masse. But, with a twist.

They should stop before he reaches the tipping point. In the lead up to the June 3rd primaries, where Obama is certain to pick up several pledged delegates, the math should be crystal clear. By figuring out how many delegates he will likely pick up on that night, the party superdelegates will be able to set him up to “win” on that night.

I think that securing the nomination after pledged delegates are counted from a primary would be a huge boost for Obama, and would lessen any cries from Clintonists that the nomination was “handed” to Obama by the “good ol’ boys”. I think it also gives Sen. Clinton a gracious out. Bowing out of a long grueling race when you’ve been defeated at the ballot box is infinitely more palatable both to a contender and to their supporters than to be seen as being pushed out by colleagues and the media.

The superdelegates should flock over in the last week of this month, but shouldn’t cross the line. Let Sen. Obama “clinch” the nomination at the ballot box on a primary night, let Sen. Clinton give a concession speech for the ages, and let the Democratic Party get to work putting itself back together in time for November.
