Congress’s Role in an Economic Downturn

The recent unemployment numbers seem to be signaling a possible slowdown or even recession in the U.S. economy. President Bush and many Members of Congress believe that a financial package may be necessary to keep the economy out of a recession or to soften the blow. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities recently released a document containing some of the potential financial options for Congress to include in a stimulus package.
