: Jacksonville Personal Injury LawyerOne Million Enrolled in Emergency Contact Information System
By Eddie Farah
When 22-year-old Tiffiany Olson was involved in a motorcycle crash in 2005, it took six hours for her mother, Christine, to find out where she was. That was time she could have spent with her dying daughter.
Now thanks to the efforts of Christine, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says that a million people have enrolled in the Florida's Emergency Contact Information System (ECI). You enter your emergency contact information to the department and only law enforcement has access to it. If you are in an accident, a scan of your license will reveal emergency contact information.
When Tiffiany died, law enforcement did not have the accurate address for her mother. Christine vowed that should never happen to another family. She contacted state legislator Rep. Bill Galvano who helped create ECI. An education campaign began and today the enrollment is at a million mark.
Floridians with a driver's license or ID card are encouraged to voluntarily provide emergency contact information using the Department's website at www.flhsmv.gov.
Mrs. Olson and her family are asking all licensed drivers in Florida to input their information so families can be told immediately if you are in an accident.
