RC2 Corp. issued two separate recalls for different children?s seats on December 6, 2007. RC2 Corp.?s “The First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds Potty Seat” was recalled due to a lead paint violation, while the company?s “The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat” was recalled when it was found the restraining straps on the seat could pull out of their slots, which could allow the child to fall out of the seat.
The potty training seats feature a decorative plaque on the back of the seat that was found to contain lead paint. About 160,000 seats were recalled.
Each of the training seats has either a yellow chair with a green seat and purple lift out-pot, or a blue chair with a white removable seat and green lift out-pot. Potty training seats were sold at retailers nationwide from April 2006 to August 2007 for between $20 and $25.
Consumers are advised to keep the product away from small children and should contact RC2 Corp. at 1-866-725-4407 for information on how to obtain a clear protective character that covers the plaque.
The company also recalled about 100,000 of the feeding seats due to the faulty safety harness. The company has received 38 reports of straps pulling out or nearly pulling out of the strap slots, and 12 reports of children falling out of the seats.
The seats can be adjusted between the reclining and upright positions, and feature a feeding tray, reversible cushion, and three-point safety belt. The recall covers all units of “”The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat” except seats with ?R? stamped on the back right and left of the seats, and units with waist strap slots that are nine inches apart.
Recalled feeding seats were sold at retail stores nationwide for about $30. Consumers are advised to stop using the seats immediately and contact RC2 Corp. at 1-866-725-4407 for information on receiving replacement straps.
