Starbucks Recalls Coffee Mugs with Defective Handles

Starbucks Coffee Co. recalled about 167,000 Starbucks Fusion coffee mugs on December 6, 2007, after receiving reports that the handles on the mugs could break off, possibly causing the user to spill hot coffee. The company has received 23 reports of the handles detaching, resulting in nine reports of burns caused by coffee spills.

Two different styles of mugs are involved in the recall. Both styles are white with a black plastic handle and a stainless steel base. One style has ?Starbucks Coffee? printed in black, while the other has a brown Starbucks logo.

Mugs bearing the ?Starbucks Coffee? name were sold at Starbucks stores nationwide from February 2007 through November 2007 for about $11, while mugs bearing the Starbucks logo were sold only at the Starbucks Pike Place store in Seattle during the same period for the same price.

Consumers should stop using the mugs immediately and contact Starbucks at 1-800-624-8678 for instructions on returning the mugs for a full refund and a free beverage.
