On December 19, 2007, American Suzuki Motor Corporation and Chrysler LLC recalled more than 600,000 vehicles due to a shift interlock system malfunction. On certain vehicles, the ignition/park shift interlock system may stop working, allowing gears to be changed even with the ignition key removed. This defect could also allow the ignition key to be removed when the vehicle is not in the ?park? position.
Each of these instances increases the risk of a vehicle rolling away, causing a car accident or personal injury without warning. Both Chrysler and Suzuki dealers will replace the malfunctioning part in question. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403, and Suzuki at 1-888-327-4236.
