So, today I went to a nursery to look for an African Violet. I happened to be wearing my Suffolk Law School t-shirt. An older man hanging out at the cash register said "Are you going to be a lawyer"? When I said I was, he said "So you're going to be a thief?". I just said "That's the idea!"

But it bothered me, so later, after he left, I said to the saleswoman "It's funny how people feel free to criticize lawyers and politicians just because of their choice of career". Then another older man said "well, lawyers and politicians should be criticized!"

That did it. Usually I just ignore comments like that, but I was not in the mood for this today. Yet, I didn't say anything! It made me decide that I need to find a standard response to that kind of ignorance. What do you guys say when people make thoughtless, insensitive comments like that?
