A kosher restaurant in NYC held a $3000 contest to find its new name... and ended up with... Kosher Village.  As if they had to spend $3000 to come up with that one.  There's a long list of the entries here.  A few are amusing.  I submitted a few, including "Yum! Kippur" which was probably not a finalist, unfortunately.  If you scroll through the link with all the entries, you can probably guess which my other ones were, based on proximity in the list to the one I just mentioned.  Their e-mail announcing the winner neglected to blind cc: all of the addresses, so now I have the e-mail addresses of 3,000 Jews I can one day spam if I ever write anything about falafel that I'm dying for people to read.

A father had his 7-year-old son taken away from him after a Detroit Tigers game where he accidentally bought the kid a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade, not realizing it was an alcoholic beverage.  The guy's a college professor -- as opposed to, I don't know, a bartender -- so I'm inclined to believe his story.  Is this really what child protective services ought to be spending its time doing?  I think the whole thing's pretty outrageous.

Funny article in Radar Magazine about some guy who wrote letters to celebrities and famous prisoners, pretending to be a 10-year-old and asking for advice.  It's worth checking out.

Long article/interview about Justice Scalia I found interesting.
