By Anne Skove, Esq.
Remember the Medinas?
It could only (?) happen in Texas: Justice Medina and his wife were indicted for arson and tampering. The indictment was ruled invalid due to an improper extension of the grand jury term.
Now the wife has been indicted again.
See Texas Supreme Court Justice's Wife Re-Indicted in House Fire, Juan A. Lozano, AP/Houston Chronicle (April 30, 2008).
Justice Medina has not been indicted again and it does not seem likely that he will be. His earlier charge was limited to evidence tampering.
The prosecutor has made a public statement (see article/link, below) indicating his own personal happiness with the charges as they stand against Mrs. Medina only. It is a happy day indeed for prosecutors who do not have to chase after judges sitting on the state's court of last resort.
If you're new here, or just need a refresher, see Funky Cold (January 29, 2008), and If It Smells Bad... (January 22, 2008). Must be read to be believed!!!
