: Dispatches from the Culture WarsMichigan's "Academic Freedom" Bill
By Ed Brayton
The Discovery Institute has announced that Michigan state Rep. John Moolenaar (they misspelled his name) has submitted an "academic freedom" bill similar to the ones being debated in Florida, Oklahoma and other states. Interestingly enough, the bill isn't even on the Michigan legislative website yet and they've already got quotes from him, which suggests that they helped him write the bill. What a shock. The good news is that the Democrats control the Michigan House now and they chair the committees. And in Michigan, the committee chairs rule with an iron fist. No bill comes up for consideration unless they want them to. Stay tuned, this could be fun.
