: IP DemocracyObama Campaign Video Views Tower Over the Rest
By Cynthia Brumfield
Beet TV draws my attention to a recent Nielsen/NetRatings report (PDF) that shows Barack Obama's web site grabbing the most unique video viewers of all three major candidates. During March, the Obama site snagged 518,000 viewers who watched 828,000 video streams for an average of 16 minutes.
Contrast this with the Hillary Clinton website which garnered only 351,000 viewers who watched 551,000 streams for an average of 4.8 minutes. Republican candidate John McCain's website drew a pathetic 38,000 viewers who watched 66,000 video streams for an average of 90 seconds. Interestingly, only 1% of the Clinton video viewers watched an Obama video and vice versa.
Beet TV's Andy Plesser just so happened to raise the candidates' online video prowess with CNN's John King at the NAB Show a few weeks back. King said that the Obama campaign had been more aggressive in exploiting the power of online video, and that's probably true. It's also true that Obama supporters are probably more net-savvy than Clinton's supporters are, and hence more likely to watch online videos. It also doesn't hurt that Obama is just a superior speaker.
