: Chuck NewtonToyota Overtakes Ford As The 2nd Biggest In U.S. Sales
By chucknewton
Toyota Motor Corp. has overtaken Ford Motor Co. to become the No. 2 automaker by U.S. sales in 2007. This was a position that Ford has held for 76 years. Toyota sold 2.62 million cars and trucks in the U.S. in 2007, or 48,226 more than Ford. Toyota sales in the U.S. were up 3%, while Ford's sales were down 12%. GMAC remains in the No. 1 position in the U.S. And, or course included in these figures for Ford were the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicle. Although these sales were not great, next year Ford might fall further if Indian car maker Tata purchases the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from Ford, as now appears possible.
What does this have to do with the Third Wave practice of law? I do not know, but like all boys, I guess, I like cars. More importantly, I am a skinflint. If I have to buy a car (and with my son's wreck I will have to do so), I crave the best price or value. I love Toyota automobiles. The one wrecked was a Toyota Scion. But, with success comes a willingness by auto dealers to take full advantage of the demand. Ford is in a position to deal.
Since I bought my first car, I have just about hated Fords. I bought a Ford T-Bird and it was a god awful car from the moment I drove it off the lot. Worse, I could hardly get Ford's attention to do anything about it. So, I have disavowed Fords all of these years. However, the last car I purchased was a Mazda 3. It is technically a Ford car and it has been a wonderful little car.
So, I will give Ford a look.
