As one of the world’s biggest investment banks, Morgan Stanley carries a lot of clout with the City’s leading law firms. Indeed, its fortunes during the financial crisis could have a dramatic impact on the top end of the legal market. Rich Rosenthal, 52, is Morgan Stanley’s senior lawyer in Europe. An American who has made his home in London for two decades, he is described by one former “magic circle” partner as “first rate”: thorough, professional, demanding. Rosenthal has an economics degree and an MBA from the Wharton Business School in Pennsylvania and a law degree from New York University. He was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell, the prestigious Wall Street law firm, before joining Morgan Stanley in 1987.
