: Jacksonville Personal Injury LawyerJacksonville Woman Ejected In Single-Car Crash
By Eddie Farah
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about 5,500 lives could be saved every year by increasing seat belt use to 90 percent.
But at the best estimates, 20 percent of adults choose not to wear seat belts and as a direct result of that decision, every hour someone dies in the U.S. without being buckled up.
A Jacksonville woman, 50-year-old Pamela Joy Corl died after being thrown from a vehicle in which she was a passenger. The vehicle was being driven by Danner Brown, 50, who was towing a travel trailer.
They were traveling late Thursday on Interstate 95 north of State Road 9A when the vehicle began to fishtail. Brown reportedly overcorrected causing the vehicle to overturn. Corl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car and died at the scene. According to federal statistics, 75 percent of people thrown out of a vehicle in an accident are killed.
Brown, also not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Baptist Hospital South with serious injuries.
Seat belts are shown to slow ejection during a crash to one percent. Without a seat belt, the ejection rate during a crash rises to about 22 percent.
Seatbelts are the most effective way to reduced fatalities and serious injuries but unfortunately about 20 percent of adults still don't wear them. #
