The visit

I hate going to the jail to visit clients. I'm not sure there are too many attorneys that actually enjoy it. The bureaucracy. The waiting. The smell. There are any number of things to hate about the trip. Of all the types, however, one is the most uncomfortable. There are the initial meetings which aren't too bad. You go in, you wait, you meet your client, each on their own side of the glass. You exchange a few pleasantries and then begin to get their side of the story. At the same time, you attempt to quickly gain your client's trust by explaining the law to them so they will actually see you, and not the local jail house lawyer, as the real lawyer.
