: The Common ScoldIN PRAISE OF BEST BUY'S EXTENDED WARRANTY
You may recall that I told you about how impressed I was with Best Buy -- especially its Kingston, N.Y. staff, who strongly urged me to take the extended warranty on my Garmin nuvi 200 GPS device.
It's a good thing I listened to them. On my Mpls trip, the charger didn't seem to be working, and "Jill" flat-out died midway to the suburbs of Eden Prairie. (You can choose your unit's voice, I opted for the American English "Jill" rather than British English "Daniel.")
Well, I walked into the nearest Best Buy, with the dead charger and nuvi device in my hands, and the "returns" gal asked, "Got a receipt?" I said, "Nope, I'm on a business trip." No problemo. She took my "Best Buy Rewards" card, quickly looked up my account to verify that I was legit, and then said, "Do you want a new unit or just the charger." Because I wasn't sure what caused the problem, I opted for the new unit, just to be safe.
Ten minutes, in and out, and Jill did her Lazarus thang and was once again reminding me briskly to "turn right! turn right! turn right!" I was so happy to hear her nagging.
Once home, I figured out what happened when I found some loose parts and a fuse at the bottom of the little bag where I keep the Garmin accessories -- the charger head had become unscrewed so the tip had come off. That was reassuring that it was indeed the charger and not the device.
A++++ to Best Buy for honoring their extended warranty with speed and a smile and absolutely NO hassle. THANKS for terrific customer service! I'm impressed, and I'll be back for my next tech purchases.
