The number of threats against members of Los Angeles county court system nearly tripled, the Daily Breeze reported.

Court records show an increased in number of threats from 99 (2006) to 267 (2007) reports the newspaper.

"It's rare when a week goes by and I don't get some kind of call from the sheriff about a threat or something else involving our courts," Los Angeles Superior Court Presiding Judge J. Stephen Czuleger told the Daily Breeze.

Czuleger pointed to the rising costs of securing courthouses while the officer who oversees the Security Operations and Judicial Services Unit spoke to the Daily Breeze about dealing with more violent gang members.
