Ironman Zishe Breitbart and the Importance of Folklore

Those of you who?ve known me since my college days might not be surprised to know that I?m related (albeit distantly) to a famous circus strong man....While I never bent iron bars with my bare hands or walked on a bed of nails like my famous ancestor, Zishe Breitbart, I was bench pressing and squatting impressive pounds of iron, especially when I was training with my bodybuilder brother (He was successful in competition.  I should have stuck to power lifting).  Zishe was a Polish circus performer, who, in the 1920s, was known as the "Strongest Man in the World" or Eisenkönig ("The Ironking").  He was a blacksmith and an Orthodox Jew who toured with Circus Busch, possibly the largest circus in the world at the time. According to Wikipedia, here are some of Zishe?s acts:  ?He bent iron bars around his arm in floral patterns, bit through iron chains or tore them apart...continue to full post
