2 Reasons to Contact Your Insurer Right After a Virginia Car Accident

By Ben Glass

ADVERTISEMENTS

While you never anticipate being involved in a car accident, chances are this event will happen to you at one point in your life. It is important that you understand what needs to be done after the crash.

For example, what happens when the other driver is to blame for your Virginia car accident? Do you go through your insurance company or the at-fault driver's? This question is one of the most common ones that arise following an accident.

If you are asking this question, I have your answer. I tell my clients that it is a good idea to contact their own insurance companies, immediately. Notifying your own insurance company is in your best interests.

Here are a couple of reasons why contacting your own insurer is advantageous to you:

  1. You may have benefits under your policy. These benefits may pay for such things as towing expenses, rental car costs and medical bills.
  2. The other driver might not have enough coverage. It is not uncommon for drivers to let their policies lapse or to not carry insurance at all. The good news is that your own policy might cover your damages.

Don't wait to call your insurance company. Contact them as soon as possible following your accident.
