Paralegal Career Dressing: Where Can a Growing Gal Get a Classic Skirt?

By Lynne DeVenny

ADVERTISEMENTS
My figure has changed. My older friends tell me it's inevitable, no matter what you eat or how much you exercise. It's not that you aren't still cute, it's just that your shape re-distributes itself, mostly around your waist. I'm a lot closer to 50 than 40, and I've finally admitted that I need a few skirts for work that fit my middle-aged shape, which is a size larger than my "girlish" 40-year old figure.

But I've had a devil of a time finding reasonably well-tailored skirts in a budget-conscious price range, and I don't have time to try my luck at the few thrift stores in our area. Then I remembered most of my existing skirts are from the Merona and Mossimo lines at Target, and have held up extremely well (with careful laundering) for years. Unfortunately, I think the rest of the world knows about Target's career skirts, because many sizes are not currently available online, and the local store has even less to offer.

But today's JCPenney circular in the Sunday paper featured a high-waisted belted skirt  from the Worthington brand, with plenty of sizes available online. Here are a couple of the skirts I'm hoping will be comfortable classics to expand my, er, expanding career wardrobe:

Worthington Belted Pencil Skirt ~ $24.99 (originally $36)

Worthington Belted High Waisted Skirt ~ $29.99 (originally $44)
This skirt also has a cute kick pleat in the back.

Nine & CO. 3 Button Jacket/Skirt ~ $47.99 (originally $160)
I wasn't looking for a suit, but for the clearance price, getting both pieces, and adding a color I don't have in a suit, seems like a good deal.

Where do you get most of your skirts for work - without breaking the bank?
