: Legal Pad | LAMelvyn Weiss pleads guilty to racketeering charges
By Jason Siegel
As part of his plea deal, class-action attorney Melvyn Weiss plead guilty to racketeering charges yesterday, Reuters reported.
Weiss faces between 18 months and 33 months in federal prison and $10 million in fines and forfeiture.
That's only if the U.S. District Judge John Walter accepts the terms of the plea deal - which he hasn't yet, Bloomberg notes.
Milberg Weiss, the firm he co-founded, dropped his name when the plea deal was announced last month.
He's quoted by the Associated Press as saying "I take responsibility for everything," regarding what prosecutors say was a $250 million kickback scheme at the firm.
Weiss will be sentenced on June 2.
His former firm and outside attorney Paul Selzer plead not guilty and will go to trial in August, Reuters reported.
