NLRB, please explain yourself

ADVERTISEMENTS

In response to budget proposals in the House, the NLRB Chairman and the Acting General Counsel published a statement that said the proposed budget (which contained cuts) would result in 55 days of furloughs for all NLRB employees.

Probably after White House pressure, that statement was removed from the NLRB website. [By pure coincidence, I am now in the process of re-reading George Orwell's classic 1984.]

Now the House Committee on Education and the Workforce is asking the NLRB [see letter] for the following information:

1. All data supporting your assertion that a $50 million NLRB budget reduction for fiscal year 2011 would force the NLRB to furlough all of its 1,665 employees for 55 workdays between now and the end of September.

2. All documents and communications relating to the February 18, 2011 joint statement you issued with Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon relating to the $50 million NLRB budget reduction.

3. All NLRB Performance Budget Justifications from fiscal year 1999 to 2009.

4. Identify each fiscal year in which the NLRB had a surplus.
