By Jill Michaux, Kansas Bankruptcy Attorney
The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) meet in Washington, D.C., in April. The deadline for discounted “early bird” registration is Friday, March 4, 2011.
The 19th annual NACBA convention on April 15-17, 2011, is being combined with the annual members-only Capitol Hill meeting on April 13-14, 2011. Meeting headquarters is the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel at 2660 Woodley Road NW, Washington, D.C. 20008. The hotel is across from the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan station on the Metro Red Line. Click here to download the NACBA brochure.
Senators and Representatives on April 14, 2011, to tell the stories of their clients and educate the members of Congress about the role bankruptcy plays in helping financially distressed families get back on their feet. The focus of this year’s Capitol Hill meeting will be on building relationships with elected officials.
“The economic downturn has forced many elected officials to take a hard look at the programs and policies that help Americans cope with the loss of income and mounting debt. We know that bankruptcy is a crucial last report for financially devastated families that have no other option. This is your opportunity to help your congressional delegation understand that,” NACBA officials say.
NACBA members will meet the day before on April 13 to learn how to participate in the legislative process and to maximize their ability to directly affect future legislation.
The Convention, open to NACBA members and non-members, will offer 25 different sessions, ranging from topics critical to the new consumer bankruptcy attorney and non-attorney staff to those presenting advanced material for experienced attorneys. On-site sign-in will begin at 5 pm on Thursday, April 14. The program kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 15, and ends at noon on Sunday, April 17. Social events planned include the Nationals v. Phillies baseball game on Thursday, April 14, 7:05pm start time, and a private performance of the famed Capitol Steps on Friday, April 15th, immediately following the evening Reception.
At least 13 hours of continuing legal education will be provided at the convention on the following topics:
