Can my wages still be garnished if I am making payments?

I recently had to have surgery, my medical bills were over $5,000. My health insurance pd and left me owing a deductible of what I thought to be $1,500 but I ended up being responsible for $2,158. I sent in a payment of $100 on 8-4-2006, on 8-14-2006 I received a bill stating that the remaining balance must be paid in full by 8-25-2006 or to call to set up a payment plan which needless to say I was offered one payment plan of $171 a month because it had to be paid in full in a year, that was the only option. Due to me being single and responsible for all my bills alone I can't afford that so my question is, can they garnish my wages as long as I am making payments but not the payments they say I am required to make?
