Dropping domestic battery charge

I've been ordered to court to testify against my boyfreind who was arrested for domestic battery. The police officer filed the complaint. He told me I did not have to show up for the court date if I did not wish to not file a complaint, yet I received a subpoena which states my appearance is mandatory. Do I still show up? I would like the case to be dismissed. I was told by not appearing in court the case would be dropped. Is this true?
