Judge Sonia Sotomayor Nominated for Supreme Court
May 26, 2009
After narrowing his list of potential nominees to four people, all women-- Federal Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood of Chicago, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Solicitor General Elena Kagan-- President Barack Obama made the decision over the 2009 Memorial Day weekend to nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to the Supreme Court, with an announcement set for early Tuesday morning.
Ms. Sotomayor is the first Hispanic to be nominated to the Court.
