Too Much Fun in Vegas for Oakland Raider

USLaw

Former Denver Bronco and newly signed Oakland Raider wide receiver Javon Walker was found unconscious with a broken face after an evening of flashy celebration at a Las Vegas night club (see video below). It is unclear if Walker was the victim of a targetted robbery initiated at the door of his hotel room as an some internet rumors indicate or a revenge attack for upstaging the posse of another sports star at Hard Rock Hotel’s Body English night club as other internet rumors speculate.

Walker is no stranger to violence. He was sitting next to Broncos teammate Darrent Williams on New Year’s Eve 2006 when the limousine they were driving in came under gunfire. Williams was shot in the neck and died in Williams lap. It is believed by many that the unsolved attack was gang related in some way.

While usually only reported when they are on the other side of the law, this unfortunate circumstance brings to mind other athletes who have been the victims of robberies and violence:

Anna Chakvetadze December, 2007 Professional tennis player was tied up and robbed of $300,000 worth of goods and cash by a half dozen masked men at her home.
Shelden Williams December, 2007 Atlanta Hawks player was carjacked at gunpoint before a game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Eddy Curry July, 2007 New York Knicks center was held at gunpoint and robbed in his Chicago home by men likely linked to Antoine Walker’s home invasion.
Rashard Mendenhall May, 2007 First NFL draft pick, Pittsbrugh Steelers, robbed at gunpoint along Chicago’s lakefront.
Stephon Marbury June, 2000 New York Knicks guard was robbed of of diamond necklace worth $150,000 while stopped at a red light in his Bentley.
Ambiorix Burgos 2007 New York Mets reliever, who only made league minimum of $415,000, had $270,000 worth of jewelry stolen from a hotel room.
