What “Stuff” was on Judge Kozinski’s Personal Website?

An aggrieved attorney encouraged the LA Times to discover pornographic material on the website of a respected Appeals Court Judge who is presiding over a federal case of a filmmaker accused of distributing “criminally obscene” videos depicting bestiality and defecation. While the Times described the pornographic content found on the personal website alex.kozinski.com of Alex Kozinski, chief judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, as including a photo of naked women on all fours painted to look like cows, a video of a half-dressed man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal, images of masturbation and public and contortionist sex, a slide show striptease featuring a transsexual, a series of photos of women’s crotches as seen through snug fitting clothing or underwear, and content with themes of defecation and urination, the Times did not reveal the specific URL of the material or display the described images so that readers could form their own opinion about their characterization.
USLaw.com has been able to partially recreate the content which was described by Judge Kozinski, known for his often outlandish sense of humor, as “funny… odd and interesting… part of life”. The hundred plus files constitute the type of “viral videos” and images that are commonly circulated among men of a certain humor by email. Very few appear to contain any nudity and those that do present it in the context of humor (though the type of humor that may arouse the enmity of some feminists and moral fundamentalists). The files are no longer available to be downloaded from what is now claimed to have been the Kozinski family computer, so we have provided several images that were reportedly captured from the server by the Times’ tipster in December, 2007 and others which internet archival services indicate resided on the server in the recent past. In addition, links are provided to google search results which contain files whose names, and therefore content, are similar to those that existed on the server:

A Former Nice Guy Who Should Finish Last: John Edwards Vice Candidate

I am still not over the John Edwards scandal. Even as the National Enquirer continues to pursue stories about his alleged love child and disqualify his half-hearted mea-culpa maneuvers, I can’t understand how such a once-respected politician, the last of the so-called “good guys,” could disrespect his ailing wife and family and throw away his life and career to pursue an extra-curricular love life. Didn’t he learn anything from Bill Clinton, Elliot Spitzer and all the others? As far as I am concerned a fellow this dumb would never have made it as president.
But the Edwards story isn’t over yet. The tabloids seem determined to bust open the whole truth about this politician’s cover-up. It’s worse than the others in some ways. First, he used his children and his wife’s illness as campaign props. Remember him proudly stating his wife urged him to run and pursue his dreams despite her cancer battle? Remember on the campaign trail all the family posed photographs straight out of a Hallmark card? Add that to his run-around media interview where he just didn’t seem sorry enough. He just doesn’t get it. If he was going to come clean he needed to do it fully, not with half- statements and half-truths. I don’t want to hear his gratuitous proclamations that he is willing to take a paternity test when his mistress has gone off into hiding and won’t even offer the child’s DNA sample to “clear the air.” Wouldn’t the first thing a mistress would want is to clear her and her child’s name from continued (and often vicious) media scrutiny? Now consider the additional circumstances of having one Edwards’ crony paying her thousands a month in living expenses and another who is married with children oddly claiming that he is the father. To me, it smacks of a diabolical cover-up.
Edwards’ explanation that he made this error because he became a narcissist is absurd. The very definition of a narcissist is someone whose sense of self is so distorted they don’t even recognize they are narcissistic. And then let’s remember his proclamation that he “doesn’t love” his mistress, and of course the most bruising admission of all—that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he cheated. The more excuses he made the worse he became. Now he is a has-been. All the work and grooming done to cultivate an image of a hometown, choir boy, folksy, soft-spoken, elegant family man and noble politician is erased. The real John Edwards stood up and he is just too textbook prepared and overly scripted to ever appear credible again.

Political Wives, Why Stand By Your Man (at the Press Conference)?

We just watched the latest political wife stand by her man at a national press conference as he announces his infidelity, betrayal of marriage vows and violation of public trust. When Silda Spitzer positioned herself next to her husband, Governor Eliot Spitzer, at the podium with her defeated, somber expression, sympathetic glances at her disappointing spouse, and staged body language implying “we are still one,” it made me wince. The message was, as usual, “You wronged me, humiliated me, destroyed my family and my life, but I want all your constituents to know that your family will not abandon you.” The event was contrived, as they always are, and every time we have the misfortune of witnessing reckless, selfish politician announce their requisite mea culpas with their wives at their side, the women seem to suffer twice as much. First they endure the devastation of the initial private family revelation behind closed doors. Then the second round of bruising humiliation, this one for the entire world to see.
The last press conference I vividly remember feeling mortified over was attended by Dina Matos McGreevey. She stood by her husband, New Jersey Governor James McGreevey, when he announced to the world that he was a “Gay American” who had an inappropriate relationship while in office. Watching Dina’s frozen smile and deer in the headlights expression, you could not help but feel her pain. But having the wife at the conference doesn’t help the politician. It just makes him look more like a dog for making her suffer again. For Silda and Dina and all the other wives who endured a scripted spectacle, now hear this: There’s a better way to weather this storm— Don’t show up!
