: Charlottesville Personal Injury LawyerToy Importer-Distributor Fined for Hazardous Children's Products
By Greg Webb
After being issued several warnings by the CPSC for violating safety standards, Two U.S. subsidiaries of Japanese retailer Daiso have been hit with a $2 million fine for importing 'lead-tainted toys and dangerous children's products.' The subsidiaries, based in California and Seattle, have been further barred from importing children's products until they are proven safe. In the past two years, the two companies have had five recalls of 698 children's products that were sold in Daiso stores in California and Washington for under $5. The CPSC is hoping the fine and increased attention on the companies will send a message to the industry that, despite their relatively minor recall history, the importing and distribution of hazardous products will not be tolerated or overlooked on any scale. Daiso's senior executive has commented that the company will comply.
