Patent Attorney / Sr. Patent Attorney - General Patent Corporation - Suffern, NY

PatentLawPic072General Patent Corporation International (GPCI) has openings for an in-house senior patent attorney and staff patent attorney.  The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of case assessment (both patent infringement and damages analyses), patent licensing and enforcement, drafting legal briefs, managing and supporting outside litigation counsel, and prosecuting additional patents for future licensing and enforcement.  This position reports to the General Counsel.

Excellent growth opportunity for a patent attorney with business acumen, a penchant for patent litigation, and a strong background in science and/or technology.

A qualified candidate will be a registered patent attorney, with strong patent litigation experience and a broad computer technology background.  New York State bar admission is preferred but not required.  Additional desired qualifications include a graduate degree in EE, computer science, and physics or a related field, and professional experience in a broad range of technologies.  Good writing and communication skills are a strong plus.  The successful candidate will have initiative, versatility, broad technical erudition, familiarity with e-commerce and web-based software technologies, the ability to process, synthesize and summarize diverse information, as well as to work on multiple, complex transactions.

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Analyzing patent infringement claims; drafting claim charts; assessing damages.
  • Licensing patents by identifying infringers and potential licensees; developing assertive licensing strategy; negotiating license agreements and settlements.
  • Litigating patent infringements by identifying and investigating infringement; determining litigation strategy; conducting pre-litigation due diligence; filing and managing suits.
  • Managing and supporting patent infringement litigation led by an outside counsel.
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications, continuations, reisues and reexamination.
  • Consulting clients on IP strategy issues.
