Dewey?s Former Chairman Lawyers Up

By Ashby Jones

ADVERTISEMENTS

bohrerSteven Davis, the embattled former chairman of Dewey & LeBoeuf, has hired himself a criminal lawyer: Barry Bohrer, of Morvillo, Abromowitz, Grand, Iason, Anello & Bohrer in New York.

The hire comes just a few days following the news that the Manhattan district attorney’s office is investigating goings-on at Dewey, with particular focus on Davis.

Over the weekend, Davis sent an email to his partners at Dewey, after the firm removed him from the office of the chairman and the executive committee. In it, Davis expressed deep “regret” about the firm’s plight, and saying he had “not engaged in any misconduct.”

In the email, which was reviewed by the Journal, he said he was “saddened by the events of the last several days” and said that all of his “decisions as chairman were made in good faith and in the firm’s best interest.”

In Bohrer, Davis has tapped one of the more well-seasoned white-collar experts in the city. He  worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for several years in the 1980s, and has been in private practice ever since.

In a statement, Bohrer told the Law Blog: “Every action of Mr. Davis as Chair of the Firm was taken in good faith and in the best interests of the Firm. He is confident that fair-minded professionals will conclude that he engaged in no misconduct.”

A call to Dewey was not immediately returned.
