Law Students: Law School Survivor
Exams, Grades, and Thoughts in general
By Tyler Larsen
During the break I had the opportunity to visit with some friends and acquaintances. Some of those friends are lawyers. Inevitably I was asked by friends and family, "So how was the first semester of law school?" There was a difference though in the way the lawyers asked that very same question. I usually saw a toothy grin with a glint of recognition of the pain, tears, and sweat that go into surviving the first semester of law school. It was a good feeling to have that kind of recognition.
I have not postponed writing because grades had not come out. I just forgot in the hustle and bustle of the holidays that I needed to post. Grades are an interesting thing. It is supposed to be a sizing up of your abilities. All the students of my study group have done well; some exceptionally well. I am grateful for the group and the help that they have been. Not only has each person contributed to the success of each individual, but each person has become a good friend. I honestly feel everyone wants everybody to succeed.
I know I am writing out of order but the last subject that I wanted to address is Exams. Holy Heck is all I can say. I know that I walked out of one exam thinking I failed and another exam thinking I had aced it. Let's just say the one exam that I thought I failed turned out to be a pleasant surprise and the supposedly-aced exam was a small let down. I think the biggest help during the past semester was taking the practice exams. I'm going to find as many of those as I can for the coming semester.
Well, back to the grind of law school. Che la vita ti tratta bene!
