: AFL-CIO NOW BLOGWeigh In on Prototype Credit Card Agreement
By Barbara Doherty
While Republicans in Congress were busy undermining the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the CFPB was busy doing its job.
CFPB is asking consumers to weigh in on a prototype credit card agreement that is shorter, written in plain language and explains key features up front. Take a look here, and let CFPB know what you think. It’s all part of the agency’s Know Before You Owe campaign.
CFPB reports that a recent study by J.D. Power showed that some two-thirds of credit cardholders say they don’t completely understand how their cards work. Many complaints stem from a misunderstanding of card terms. Credit card debt is estimated at $700 billion.

What Do You Know about Your Credit Card Agreement
A recent study from CreditCards.com illuminates a worrying issue about credit cards that may not be addressed by the Credit CARD Act (taking full effect later this month). The CFPB's (Non-)Model Credit Card Agreement
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has drafted what it believes is a simple, easy to understand agreement that will aid consumers in deciding whether to apply for a credit card and make credit terms more transparent...
'Simplicity Guru' Alan Siegel's 'Simplified Credit Card Agreement'
Via Public Citizen's Consumer Law and Policy Blog I came upon the great video below featuring Alan Siegel, a branding expert and "simplicity guru." One of Siegel's missions is to put legal documents for government and business into plain English, and he has offered up a stellar example of that in the form of a simplified credit card agreement (click the thumbnail below to see full size): Siegel says he locked himself in a room and created this simplified agreement after hearing President Obama ask why credit card companies could not offer customers a clear, one-page agreement explaining the terms of the relationship...
