Cadillac Logo

By mcbride

ADVERTISEMENTS

Under the sub heading of ?did you know that??: ?The original Cadillac logo was based on the family arms of Antoine de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, a minor aristocrat who founded Detroit in 1701. Mr. Cadillac?s own heraldry appears to have been borrowed or concocted, by some accounts.?

Since its origination, the Cadillac logo has undergone several revisions, some more drastic than others. The latest revision is subtle and adds texture and brightwork that was evidently lacking in the previous version. One more fun fact: ?the current Escalade SUV and truck wears the largest Cadillac logo ever. It is known internally as ?the frisbee.??

Here is a link to an article on the logo revisions over the years and another which discusses the most recent one, which is only now being rolled out on new vehicles: http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/10/cadillac-redesigns-logo-again/?src=twr (which covers the recent redesign) and http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/the-language-of-auto-emblems (a great article which discusses car logos in general with historical pictures and wonderful ?dialogue? in the comments section).
